versions ) click here to see --> PICTURES IN "BEFORE" CONDITION This is a very nice vintage Olds Special Trumpet built in 1968 in the Fullerton plant in California when the Olds company was at the height of their instrument making. The Special had a tri-color finish consisting of Re-O-Loy, nickel-silver and brass. With the satin finish on parts of the brass and nickel-silver areas, the effect is to add 2 more colors to the scheme giving it a 5-color effect. This is one stunning looking trumpet! This trumpet appears original. The trumpet is in excellent shape but not perfect. If you look very closely, you will find a few very small imperfections and one of the original finger buttons is a shade lighter than the other two although it is the same style. Overall, for a 39 year old trumpet, this one is in great shape. The Olds Central site hosted by Alan Rouse is the definitive site for all things Olds. There is a page from a 1966 catalog posted there that talks about "... adds complex harmonies to the tone, enhances the appearance, and provides additional strength and durability. Free-blowing -- quick response -- an ideal combination of craftsmanship and quality. Lightening fast valve action, medium large bore, third valve intonation adjustment, tri-colored 'spectrum-tone' bell and body..." Besides it's appearance, the best feature about this trumpet is its playability! This trumpet, like the older Los Angeles ( LA ) Olds Super trumpets, really sounds great! In our estimation, it plays better than some of the more expensive models made like the Mendez. Possibly the "spectrum-tone bell" makes the difference. We saw an Ambassador trumpet similar to this in a satin finish sell recently for over $660. Maybe you did too but if you missed it, email us for the link if you'd like to see that one. To compare this to that one, this one looks much nicer with the extra color scheme and we would not hesitate to say that it is a better player! We think this one is a bargain at the Buy It Now price. We are including the vintage Olds case used with Specials and Ambassadors along with a very nice Olds 3C mouthpiece. Not shown but included will be the 3rd slide finger ring for that "third valve intonation adjustment". Also, the horn has not been clear lacquered to allow it to age but if you wish to have it maintain its current appearance, let us know and we will clear lacquer it.
